How to Hang Baskets on a Wall Without Nails (+ Video Tutorial)
Some 5 years ago, I started hammering nails into my wall with the enthusiasm of a DIY newbie, only to end up with crooked baskets, a few damaged walls, and a whole lot of frustration. Ugh. But I'm happy to report that my mishaps weren't in vain!
After some trial and error (okay, a lot of error), I cracked the code on how to hang African baskets without damaging baskets or walls.
And because I don't want you to go through the same headache, I've put together a guide on how to create that Pinterest-worthy basket wall you've been dreaming of.
And for those of you who are visual learners like me, I've even included a video tutorial on how to hang baskets on a wall!
The Problem: How to hang baskets on a wall without making holes
First things first - let's address the elephant in the room. How do you hang a basket on a wall without making holes? Nobody wants to put holes in their beautiful baskets or their walls if they can avoid it.
The solution: Small Command Hooks
I use small command hooks for hanging baskets. They're strong enough to hold your baskets securely, but they won't damage your walls.
Plus, they're clear, so they're practically invisible once your basket is hung.
I've tried various ways to hang baskets over the years, but this technique is by far my favorite. It allows the baskets to sit flush against the wall, creating a sleek, professional look.
Plus, it's perfect for renters or anyone who likes to change up their decor frequently. Plus, they're strong enough to hold even my chunkier baskets.
How to Hang Your Baskets (The Easy Way As Seen in My Video!)
I've made a video tutorial showing how I hang my baskets using this method, so you can see the process in action.
Check out my video for a visual guide. I promise it's easier than you think! It's a great guide if you're more of a "show me" kind of learner, but here's a quick rundown:
1. Choose your baskets: I love using a mix of sizes and patterns from Rufina Designs. These wall design baskets are specifically made for hanging and come with hooks already spaced.
2 . Plan your layout: Arrange your baskets on the floor first to get a feel for the design.
Lay your baskets on the floor to play with different arrangements before committing to wall placement. I do this to first get a feel for the design.
3. Clean the wall: Make sure the area where you'll place the Command Hooks is clean and dry.
4. Install the hooks: Follow the instructions on the Command Hook package. Usually, you'll need to press the hook against the wall for about 30 seconds
5. Hang your baskets: Once the hooks are secure, simply slip the loops on your baskets over the hooks. It's that easy!
For baskets without built-in loops
What if your basket doesn't have a loop?
Sometimes you'll fall in love with a basket that doesn't have a convenient loop for hanging. I've got a solution for that too. Create your own hanging loop using waxed thread and a sturdy needle. Here's a quick DIY solution.
You'll need:
Scissors
Sturdy sewing needle
Waxed thread (available at craft stores or online)
Waxed thread is perfect because it's thicker and stiffer than regular thread. It holds its shape well, creating a solid loop for hanging. Just sew a loop onto the back of your basket, and make sure it's secure by going through the weave multiple times. Then tie off the thread tightly, and you're good to go! And voila! You've got a sturdy loop for hanging.
Why I love using command hooks
They don't damage your walls (renters, rejoice!) or if you like to change your decor often.
It’s easy to change too. If you want to switch up your decor, just remove the Command hooks - no patching required!
If you’re not happy with the placement, it’s easy to adjust? Just remove and reposition!
They're strong enough to hold most baskets
They're super easy to install and remove
They're removable and don't leave marks
Works with various basket types, from tightly woven to more open weaves.
Works great in any room - living room, bedroom, you name it.
